$20 billion in investment to reap 9 kilograms - what glass is so expensive?

This is a good news waiting for more than 20 years. Recently, scientists from the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory successfully completed the first hot test of low-level waste liquid glass curing.

"The 9 kilograms of glass produced in this experiment is the first nuclear waste generated by the U.S. Department of Energy's investment of more than 20 billion U.S. dollars for the Hanford Plant's nuclear waste treatment project in 1997.glassOn June 28th, Xu Kai, Professor of the State Key Laboratory of Silicate Building Materials of Wuhan University of Technology, was introduced during an exclusive interview with a reporter from Science and Technology Daily, who had worked at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory for many years.
Xu Kai explained that this hot test completely simulated the low-level waste liquid treatment process that the Hanford Plant will take to cure the real low-level waste liquid. It is worth mentioning that this process is a continuous feed mode rather than a conventional batch feed.
"This is an extremely important guiding significance for in-depth study of the Hanford Glass curing process and the future expansion of the scale of processing." Xu Kai evaluation.
